After a FRITZ!OS update, a username is required for the login to the user interface

After a FRITZ!Repeater update, a username is now requested when opening the user interface via the internet (e.g. via MyFRITZ!). Before the update, only the FRITZ!Repeater password was required for the login.

Cause

  • With FRITZ!OS 8.20 or higher, the FRITZ!Repeater can also be used as an internet router, and it has user controls. To access it from the internet, a username and password must be entered. The user must be authorized to access the device from the internet.

1 Setting up FRITZ!Repeater users

A user with the name 'fritz' plus a random four-digit number, for example 'fritz1234', is created automatically during the update. Adapt the rights of this standard user for the login via the internet, or configure a new user with the right to access from the internet. The configuration must be done locally in the home network.

  1. Click on 'System' in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click on 'FRITZ!Repeater Users' in the 'System' menu.
  3. Click on the (Edit) button for the user who should be allowed to access the FRITZ!Repeater from the internet or set up a new user for internet access:
    1. Click on the 'Add User' button.
    2. Enter a name, email address, and password for the user in the corresponding fields.
  4. Enable the 'Access from the internet allowed' option.
  5. Enable the 'FRITZ!Repeater Settings' option.
  6. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings and on the FRITZ!Repeater, confirm that the procedure may be executed, if you are asked to do so.
