Connecting FRITZ!Powerline to the FRITZ!Repeater (Mesh Master) via powerline

Connect FRITZ!Powerline to your FRITZ!Repeater (Mesh Master) via powerline to add an additional wireless access point to your home network quickly and easily. The first FRITZ!Powerline device is connected to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Repeater using a network cable. The second FRITZ!Powerline device can be positioned further away from the FRITZ!Repeater and is connected to the FRITZ!Repeater over your home's wiring. This way you will have ideal Wi-Fi reception and high-speed connections to the internet and home network, even when outside the Wi-Fi range of your FRITZ!Repeater.

The FRITZ!Powerline devices are integrated into the Mesh during setup and marked with the Mesh symbol in the FRITZ!Repeater user interface. The second FRITZ!Powerline device adopts all of the settings from the FRITZ!Repeater, such as Wi-Fi access information and guest access. In the Mesh, your wireless devices automatically connect to the wireless access point that offers the best Wi-Fi reception.

Changes in the Mesh can then be easily made in the FRITZ!Repeater. The FRITZ!Repeater automatically transmits the new settings to the FRITZ!Powerline device. If you still want to access the user interface of the FRITZ!Powerline device, use the password from the FRITZ!Repeater to log in.

Connection scenario for powerline bridge mode

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Powerline device.

1 Loading the factory settings of the FRITZ!Powerline device

To perform the following steps, the second FRITZ!Powerline device that you want to add to the home network must be set to factory settings. If you bought FRITZ!Powerline in a set, perform these steps with the FRITZ!Powerline device with Wi-Fi:

  1. Plug the FRITZ!Powerline device into a socket and wait until the Power LED or WLAN LED remains lit or the Connect LED flashes slowly.
  2. Push the corresponding button on the device:

  3. During this process, all of the LEDs flash once. The Power LED or WLAN LED remains lit or the Connect LED flashes slowly as soon as the factory settings have finished loading.

2 Connecting FRITZ!Powerline devices with each other

Devices from a FRITZ!Powerline set are already connected to each other and the set can be used without configuring additional settings. If you purchased the FRITZ!Powerline devices separately or want to integrate a set into an existing powerline network, you must connect the powerline devices with each other first:

  1. Plug the FRITZ!Powerline device that you want to add to the powerline network into an electrical socket near a FRITZ!Powerline device that is already in the powerline network.

    Important:If you want to add FRITZ!Powerline to an already existing powerline network, make sure that at least two FRITZ!Powerline devices in the existing network are active. FRITZ!Powerline devices without Wi-Fi switch to standby mode if no network cable is connected to the LAN port or no data is transmitted for about 5 minutes.

  2. Wait until the FRITZ!Powerline device is ready for operation and the Connect LED flashes slowly or the Power LED or WLAN LED remains lit.
  3. Briefly push the Connect button (see table) on both of the FRITZ!Powerline devices. You can push the button on whichever FRITZ!Powerline device you want first. When you release the button, the Powerline or Connect LED flashes. Depending on the FRITZ!Powerline model, several other LEDs flash at the same time.

  4. The process is completed and the FRITZ!Powerline devices are connected to each other as soon as the Powerline LED remains lit.

3 Connecting FRITZ!Powerline devices

  1. For setup, plug both of the FRITZ!Powerline devices into outlets near the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. If you bought a single FRITZ!Powerline device: For setup, connect the first FRITZ!Powerline device you already had to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Repeater.
  3. If you bought FRITZ!Powerline as a set: Use a network cable to connect the FRITZ!Powerline device without Wi-Fi to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Repeater.

4 Adding the FRITZ!Powerline device to the Mesh by button

  1. Briefly push the Connect button (see table) on the FRITZ!Powerline device (for about 1 second) and release it again. When you release the button, depending on the FRITZ!Powerline model, several other LEDs flash at the same time.

  2. Within 2 minutes: Push and hold down the Connect button on the FRITZ!Repeater (Mesh Master) until the Connect LED lights up or starts to flash. Other LEDs may also light up or flash.
  3. The process is complete as soon as the FRITZ!Repeater marks the FRITZ!Powerline device with the Mesh symbol in the Mesh Overview.

5 Connecting the FRITZ!Powerline device to the home network

  1. Plug the new FRITZ!Powerline device with Wi-Fi into an outlet at the desired location. The Powerline LED on the FRITZ!Powerline device remains lit as soon as the powerline device is connected to the home network.
