Changing FRITZ!Powerline's Wi-Fi settings
During setup, the FRITZ!Powerline adapter automatically adopts the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi network key of the Mesh Master (FRITZ!Box or FRITZ!Repeater), or those of a router from a different manufacturer, to allow devices in the home network to quickly switch between Wi-Fi networks (Wi-Fi roaming). When used in the FRITZ! Mesh, the FRITZ!Powerline device also adopts all of the other Wi-Fi settings, adjusts them when the Mesh Master settings are changed, and allows devices to switch to the wireless access point with the best Wi-Fi reception and also to the most suitable frequency band (Mesh Wi-Fi steering).
If necessary, you can also customize the FRITZ!Powerline device's Wi-Fi settings.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Powerline device.
1 Disabling the adoption of settings from the Mesh
If the FRITZ!Powerline device is used in a Mesh, you must first disable the adoption of settings in the FRITZ!Powerline device:
2 Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)
- Click on 'Wi-Fi' in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
- Click on 'Wi-Fi Network' in the 'Wi-Fi' menu.
- Enter a unique name in the 'Name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)' field.
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
- Reconfigure the Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Powerline device.
3 Changing the Wi-Fi network key
- Click on 'Wi-Fi' in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
- Click on 'Wi-Fi Network' in the 'Wi-Fi' menu.
- Enter a password in the 'Wi-Fi network key' field. Use numerals, letters, and other characters, and mix upper and lower case letters.
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
- Reconfigure the Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Powerline device.
4 Enabling the MAC address filter
- Click on 'Wi-Fi' in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
- Click on 'Security' in the 'Wi-Fi' menu.
- Click on the 'Encryption' tab.
- Enable the option 'Do not allow any new wireless devices' in the 'Restrict Access to Wi-Fi' section.
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
Now only wireless devices entered in the list under 'Restrict Access to Wi-Fi' can connect to the FRITZ!Powerline device's Wi-Fi network. If you want to connect a new wireless device to the FRITZ!Powerline device, briefly disable the MAC address filter and do not re-enable it until the new wireless device has been connected to the FRITZ!Powerline device. The MAC address of the new wireless device will then be automatically added to the MAC address filter.
5 Setting up a Wi-Fi schedule
If you want to turn off the Wi-Fi network of the FRITZ!Powerline device and the Wi-Fi network of the Mesh Master at different times, you can set up an individual schedule in the FRITZ!Powerline device:
Note:The schedule is applied regardless of whether you already turned the Wi-Fi network on or off manually. You can use the button on the FRITZ!Powerline device to enable the Wi-Fi network at any time.
- Click on 'Wi-Fi' in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
- Click on 'Schedule' in the 'Wi-Fi' menu.
- Enable the 'Use schedule for Wi-Fi network' option.
- If the Wi-Fi network should not be turned off until no more wireless devices are connected, enable the option 'The Wi-Fi network cannot be turned off until no more wireless devices are active'.
- Define when the Wi-Fi network should be turned off.
- If the Wi-Fi network is to be turned off at the same time every day:
- Enable the 'Turn Wi-Fi off daily' option.
- Enter the desired period.
- If you would like to set up a detailed weekly schedule:
- Enable the 'Turn off Wi-Fi network according to schedule' option.
- Mark the desired periods of time by clicking and dragging with the mouse or Click on the 'Enter Period' button and enter the periods using the keyboard.
- If the Wi-Fi network is to be turned off at the same time every day:
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
