Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a Vodafone line
To use the FRITZ!Box with Vodafone, simply connect it to the fiber optic modem from Vodafone and configure the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box. The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, multimedia, and smart home is then available to all of the devices in the home network without restriction.
Important:Currently, we do not have any information about how to use Vodafone's telephony function with the FRITZ!Box. As soon as we find out, we will update this guide.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Asking for account information
- Call Vodafone's customer service and ask for the VLAN ID and PBit for the internet connection.
Note:In its own fiber optic network, Vodafone uses VLAN ID 100 and PBit 0. VLAN ID 20 or 24 and PBit 0, 3 or 5 is used for NEBA fiber optic connections.
2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box
- Insert one end of a network cable into the 'WAN' port on the FRITZ!Box. Use the network cable supplied with the FRITZ!Box, for example.
- Insert the other end of the network cable into the LAN port on the fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination).
3 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box
- Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click on 'Log In'.
- Click on 'Internet' and then on 'Account Information'.
- Select 'other internet service provider' from the drop-down list.
- Enable the 'Connection to an external modem or router' option in the 'Connected via' section.
- Enable the 'Establish own connection to the internet' option in the 'Operating Mode' section.
- Enter the account information you received from Vodafone in the relevant fields.
- Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the 'Downstream' and 'Upstream' fields.
- Click on 'Change connection settings'.
- Enable the 'Use VLAN for internet access' option.
- In the 'VLAN ID' and 'PBit' fields, enter the data provided by Vodafone.
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings. Now the FRITZ!Box establishes the internet connection.
Important:If the FRITZ!Box cannot establish an internet connection, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact Vodafone.
