Adding photos of callers and background images for FRITZ!Fon

Photos can be added to contacts in the FRITZ!Box phone book (contact pictures). The photos are then displayed on your FRITZ!Fon when you receive a call from that contact. For each FRITZ!Fon you can also configure your own background image that is displayed in standby mode.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • Only FRITZ!Fons with colour displays support the use of background images and contact pictures.
  • A USB storage device must be connected to the FRITZ!Box and the USB remote connection may not be enabled for USB storage media under 'Home Network > USB Devices > USB remote connection' in the user interface.
  • No DECT repeaters from other manufacturers are registered with the FRITZ!Box.
  • You can add up to 150 contact pictures.
  • Contact pictures can only be added to telephone books that are directly saved in the FRITZ!Box. With Google Contacts, the pictures assigned to contacts in Google accounts are displayed. This function is not available with other online telephone books.
  • The pictures must be in JPEG file format.

Note:We recommend a resolution of at least 240x320 pixels for the images, with an ideal aspect ratio of 1:1. If you save an image as a JPEG in image editing software, we recommend using 'baseline' encoding (usually the default).

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Enabling encryption

DECT encryption must be enabled to use convenience functions with your FRITZ!Fon:

  1. Click on 'DECT' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Base Station' in the 'DECT' menu.
  3. Enable the 'Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)' option in the 'Security' section.
  4. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
  5. If the option was disabled, restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ('System > Backup > Restart').

2 Adding photos to contacts

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Book' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. If you set up more than one phone book in the FRITZ!Box, switch to the phone book you use with the FRITZ!Fon.
  4. Click on the (edit) button next to the desired phone book entry.
  5. Click on the 'Add Photo' tab and then click on the 'Add Photo' button. If the tab is not displayed, the FRITZ!Box is configured as a Mesh Repeater. Photos can only be added in the Mesh Master and are not displayed in the phone book of the Mesh Repeater.
  6. Click on the 'Browse...' or 'Choose File' button and select the desired photo.
  7. Click on 'Apply' and 'OK' to save the settings.

3 Adding a background image

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Telephony Devices' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephone.
  4. Click on the 'Telephony Device Features' tab.

  10. 'Menu' > 'Start Screens' > 'Classical'

The images are now displayed on your FRITZ!Fon. The bottom part of the images is lighter than the upper part so that the text display remains readable.
