Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a Vodafone DSL line

You want to set up a new FRITZ!Box for use with a Vodafone line? ✔ Simply start the wizard for internet access.

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with a DSL line from Vodafone. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line and enter your personal account information in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and TV (Vodafone TV) is then available to all of the devices in the home network without restriction.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Having your account information ready

  1. Have your 'Modem-Installations-Code' (MIC) or your personal account information for internet access and the login information for telephony that you received from Vodafone ready.

    Note:You will find the 'Modem-Installations-Code' or your account information in the welcome letter that Vodafone sent you before activating your connection. If you did not receive your account information, contact Vodafone.

    ATTENTION!Vodafone is currently switching telephony to a new system (Nokia IMS). If your login information mentions a SIP registrar xxxx.fixed.vodafone.de, then your connection was switched to Nokia IMS. In this case, configure your phone numbers as described in Vodafone's guide and select 'other internet service provider'.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line

The cables and adapters included with the FRITZ!Box differ depending on the product version you have. Therefore, connect the FRITZ!Box as described in one of the two following sections depending on which cables were included with delivery:

Using a DSL cable (TAE/RJ45) to connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line

  1. Insert the DSL cable into the 'DSL/TEL' socket on the FRITZ!Box and into the socket labelled 'F' on the phone jack (TAE).

Using a DSL adapter to connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line

  1. Insert the DSL/phone cable into the 'DSL/TEL' socket on the FRITZ!Box.
  2. Insert the short, grey end of the DSL/phone cable into the grey DSL adapter.
  3. Insert the DSL adapter into the socket labelled 'F' on the phone jack (TAE). Leave the black end of the cable hanging.

3 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. If the FRITZ!Box is set to factory settings, set a password for accessing the user interface and click on 'OK' and then on 'Next'.

  3. If the wizard for internet access does not start automatically, click on 'Wizards' and then on 'Configure the Internet Connection'.

  4. Select 'Vodafone' from the drop-down list.
  5. Enable the option 'Einrichtung mit Modem-Installations-Code (Empfohlen)' (Configuration with modem installation code (recommended)), click on 'Next', and enter your modem installation code. If you did not receive a modem installation code:
    1. Enable the option 'Einrichtung mit Eingabe der Zugangsdaten' and click on 'Next'.
    2. Enter the account information contained in the welcome letter from Vodafone in the fields in the section 'Ihr Internetzugang (nur für Expertenmodus bei manueller Konfiguration)' (Your internet connection (only for expert mode during manual configuration)).
  6. Click on 'Next' and follow the wizard's instructions. The wizard connects the FRITZ!Box to the internet.

    Important:If the FRITZ!Box cannot connect to the internet, either your internet access has not been activated yet, or the account information is incorrect. In this case, contact Vodafone.

4 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Configuring phone numbers

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Numbers' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click on the 'New Phone Number' button.
  4. If shown, enable the option 'Internet phone number' and click on 'Next'.
  5. Select 'Vodafone DSL' from the drop-down list.
  6. Enter the login information supplied by Vodafone in the corresponding fields.
  7. Click on 'Next' and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning phone numbers

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Telephony Devices' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click on the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click on the 'Configure New Device' button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list 'Outgoing Calls', select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a phone number, the number entered under 'Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings' is used for making calls.
  5. Select the phone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
