Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a Telekom DSL line

You want to set up the FRITZ!Box on a Telekom line with IP telephony, for example MagentaZuhause? ✔ It's easy with this step-by-step guide.

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with Deutsche Telekom (for example 'MagentaZuhause', 'MagentaEINS'). Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line and enter your personal account information in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and television (MagentaTV) is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Having your account information ready

  1. Have your personal account information that you received from Telekom ready.

Note:You will find the account information in the letter that Telekom sent you before activating your connection. If you did not receive your account information, contact Telekom.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line

  1. Insert the DSL cable into the 'DSL' socket on the FRITZ!Box and into the socket labelled 'F' on the phone jack (TAE).

  9. Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is complete as soon as the message 'The internet connection check was successful' is displayed.

Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact Telekom.

  6. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.

5 Setting up television (MagentaTV)

These steps are only necessary if you ordered digital television reception (MagentaTV) for your Telekom line:

Connecting the media receiver to the home network

  1. Use a network cable to connect the media receiver to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box.

Note:If you cannot connect the receiver and FRITZ!Box by cable, you can also connect them via Wi-Fi or your home's electrical wiring, for example with a FRITZ!Repeater or FRITZ!Powerline.

Selecting the internet connection for the media receiver

If the FRITZ!Box establishes the internet connection via DSL as well as the mobile network, configure the FRITZ!Box so that the media receiver can only use one of the two internet connections:

Note:MagentaTV receivers often do not tag IPTV packets, so the FRITZ!Box cannot recognize them as IPTV or assign them to a specific internet connection. If the FRITZ!Box is configured for parallel operation, the IPTV packets from the receiver are therefore distributed to the DSL and LTE internet connection, which may lead to errors with the MagentaTV platform.

  1. Click on 'Home Network' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Network' in the 'Home Network' menu.
  3. Click on the 'Network Connections' tab.
  4. Click the (Edit) button next to the media receiver.
  5. In the 'Internet Connection' section, select the desired internet connection.

Important:If the configured internet connection fails, the media receiver can no longer access the internet.

  6. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
