Telephony devices and automated phone system cannot be controlled remotely

Although you can make phone calls, you cannot remotely control telephony devices or automated phone systems on other lines by pressing buttons. For example, you cannot:

  • Operate the automated phone system of a phone hotline.
  • Remotely control an answering machine on another line.
  • Call an answering machine connected to the FRITZ!Box and control it remotely (for example to listen to new messages).
  • Enter a PIN for phone banking.

1 Testing different DTMF transmission methods

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Numbers' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective internet phone number.

Important:If you cannot edit the phone number, the number was automatically configured in the FRITZ!Box when your internet connection was configured. It is not possible to change the settings of phone numbers that were automatically configured. Refer to your cable provider for further information on these phone numbers.

  4. Select 'Other provider' from the drop-down list, even if you are using a preconfigured internet telephony provider.
  5. Click on 'Additional Settings' to display all of the settings.
  6. Try different settings for the 'DTMF transmission' in the 'Additional Settings for the Phone Number' section or ask your internet telephony provider which setting you need to select.
  7. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.

Besides these settings, the FRITZ!Box has no influence on whether the tones are distorted when they are transmitted to the line that was called. For example, if the internet telephony provider sends DTMF tones over the voice channel, individual tones can be distorted by other signals. In this case, a solution on the part of the FRITZ!Box is not possible.
