Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a fiber optic connection from Ziggo

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with Ziggo. Have Ziggo activate the FRITZ!Box, then connect it to the fiber optic connection and configure telephony.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and smart home is then available to all of the devices in the home network without restriction.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • FRITZ!Box Fiber with SFP plug-in module 'FRITZ!SFP XGS-PON'.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Unlocking your FRITZ!Box

  1. Call Ziggo's customer service at 088 1212909 to have them unlock the FRITZ!Box for your line. For this, give them the 'modem ID' on the FRITZ!Box's type label.

2 Inserting the SFP module into the FRITZ!Box

The FRITZ!Box is available in several different product variants, each of which is delivered with different components. If the FRITZ!Box you received did not have an SFP plug-in module inserted, perform the following step:

  1. Insert the SFP module 'FRITZ!SFP XGS-PON' into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box.

3 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to your fiber optic connection

  1. Remove the dust protection caps from the fiber optic cable, the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box, and from the fiber optic socket (OTO).
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box and to the fiber optic socket. Do not bend the fiber optic cable and do not hold the ends of the cable in front of your eyes.

4 Plugging the FRITZ!Box in

  1. Plug the power adapter into the FRITZ!Box's power socket and plug it into an electrical socket.

5 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click on 'Log In'.
  3. If the wizard for internet access does not start automatically, click on 'Wizards' and then on 'Configure the Internet Connection'.

  4. Select 'other internet service provider' from the drop-down list and click on 'Next'.
  5. Enable the 'No' option in the 'Account Information' section.
  6. Click on 'Next' and follow the wizard's instructions. The wizard connects the FRITZ!Box to the internet.

    Important:If the FRITZ!Box cannot establish an internet connection, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact Ziggo.

6 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Having your account information ready

  1. Have the account information for telephony that are displayed in the Mijn Ziggo app or that you received from Ziggo's customer service ready (for example the username and password).

Configuring phone numbers

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Numbers' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click on the 'New Phone Number' button.
  4. Select 'Other provider' from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your phone number including the area code (for example 31201234567) by 'Telephone number for registration'.
  6. Enter your phone number (for example 1234567) by 'Internal phone number in the FRITZ!Box'.
  7. Enter the login information you received from Ziggo by 'Username' and 'Password'.

    Important:Leave the 'Authentication name' field blank since otherwise login problems may occur.

  8. Enter vmk.voice.ziggo.nl in the 'Registrar' field.
  9. Enter your area code by 'Area code'.
  10. Click on 'Additional Settings' to display all of the settings.
  11. Enable the 'Use phone number for registration' option.
  12. Select the setting 'IPv4 and IPv6, IPv6 preferred' by 'Contact Internet telephony provider via'.
  13. Click on 'Next' and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning phone numbers

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Telephony Devices' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click on the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click on the 'Configure New Device' button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list 'Outgoing Calls', select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a phone number, the number entered under 'Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings' is used for making calls.
  5. Select the phone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
