Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with another fiber optic modem
You can also use the FRITZ!Box with an additional fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination) when the FRITZ!Box cannot be operated directly on the fiber optic connection.
Since the FRITZ!Box establishes and controls its own internet connection over the fiber optic modem, all FRITZ!Box functions (such as firewall, telephony) are also available without restriction in this operating mode.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Connecting FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic modem
- Insert one end of a network cable into the 'LAN 1' port on the FRITZ!Box. Use the network cable supplied with the FRITZ!Box, for example.
- Insert the other end of the network cable into the LAN port on the fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination).
2 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box
- Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click on 'Log In'.
- If the 'Account Information' menu is not displayed automatically, click on 'Account Information' in the 'Internet' menu.
- Select 'other internet service provider' from the drop-down list.
- Enable the 'LAN 1' option in the 'Internet connection via' section.
- If account information is required, enter the account information you received from your internet service provider in the corresponding fields.
- If account information is not required, enable the 'No' option in the 'Account Information' section.
Note:If you have an internet connection from Deutsche Telekom, enter the following in the 'Username' field, without spaces in between: Your 'Anschlusskennung' (line ID, 12 digits), the 'Zugangsnummer' (access number, normally 12 digits), the 'Mitbenutzernummer' (co-user number, e.g. 0001), and @t-online.de.
- If account information is not required, enable the 'No' option in the 'Account Information' section.
- Click on 'Change connection settings'.
- Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the 'Downstream' and 'Upstream' fields.
- If the internet service provider requires you to use a specific VLAN ID, enable the 'Use VLAN for internet access' option and enter the VLAN ID.
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings. Now the FRITZ!Box establishes the internet connection.
Note:If the FRITZ!Box cannot connect to the internet, either your internet access has not been activated yet, or the account information is incorrect. In this case, contact the internet service provider.
3 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box
If you want to connect phones to the FRITZ!Box and use them to make calls over the internet:
- Configure the internet phone numbers in the FRITZ!Box.
