Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a fiber optic connection
You want to use the FRITZ!Box with a fiber optic modem? ✔ It's easy with this guide.

You can also use your FRITZ!Box on a fiber optic connection (Fiber to the Home, FTTH) with an additional fiber optic modem.
Since the FRITZ!Box establishes and controls its own internet connection over the fiber optic modem, all FRITZ!Box functions (such as firewall, parental controls) are also available without restriction in this operating mode.
1 Connecting FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic modem
- Insert one end of a network cable into the 'WAN' port on the FRITZ!Box. Use the network cable supplied with the FRITZ!Box, for example.
- Insert the other end of the network cable into the LAN port on the fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination).
2 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box
- Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click on 'Log In'.
- Click on 'Internet' and then on 'Account Information'.
- Select 'DSL or fiber optic modem' from the 'Internet connection via' drop-down list.
- If your internet service provider is displayed in the drop-down list, select your provider and enter the account information you received from the internet service provider in the corresponding fields.
- If your internet service provider is not displayed:
- Select 'other internet service provider'.
- Enter the account information you received from the internet service provider in the relevant fields. If account information is not required, enable the 'No' option.
- Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the 'Downstream' and 'Upstream' fields.
- If the internet service provider requires you to use a specific VLAN ID, click on 'Change Connection Settings', enable the 'Use VLAN for internet access' option, and enter the VLAN ID.
- If your internet service provider is not displayed:
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings. Now the FRITZ!Box establishes the internet connection.
Note:If the FRITZ!Box cannot connect to the internet, either your internet access has not been activated yet, or the account information is incorrect. In this case, contact the internet service provider.
3 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box
If you want to connect phones to the FRITZ!Box and use them to make calls over the internet:
- Configure the internet phone numbers in the FRITZ!Box.
